ISO 4427
ISO 4427 — Plastics piping systems for water supply
The international standard governing PE100 / PE80 water supply pipes. Adopted (often verbatim) into European EN 12201, Australian AS/NZS 4130, Chinese GB/T 13663 and most national specifications.
What is ISO 4427?
ISO 4427 is the international standard family for polyethylene pipes and fittings intended for water supply. It is published in 5 parts: general (Part 1), pipes (Part 2), fittings (Part 3), valves (Part 4) and fitness for purpose (Part 5). It defines material classification (PE40, PE80, PE100, PE100-RC), dimensional tolerances, pressure rating curves, marking requirements and acceptance test procedures. National standards in most jurisdictions — EN 12201 (Europe), AS/NZS 4130 (Australia / New Zealand), GB/T 13663 (China), TIS (Thailand), KS (Korea) — directly adopt ISO 4427's technical requirements with minor regional additions.
Why it matters to buyers
ISO 4427 is the most universally referenced standard in PE water pipe tenders worldwide. Even where a country has its own national standard, the tender language usually reads 'compliant with the national standard, equivalent to ISO 4427.' For an exporter, ISO 4427 compliance is the single best evidence that the same product meets local requirements in 100+ countries. Failure to produce ISO 4427 documentation will typically eliminate a supplier from any internationally-funded project (World Bank, AfDB, ADB, IDB).
How Primepoly meets ISO 4427
Every Primepoly HDPE pipe is manufactured to ISO 4427 Parts 1 and 2 with full type-test documentation. The dimensional tolerances (mean OD, ovality, wall thickness), surface finish, marking and pressure rating all comply with Class B / S 5 (PE100 PN16). Independent third-party testing (TÜV / SGS / BV available) confirms hydrostatic strength at 20 / 80 / 95 °C, slow crack growth resistance (notch test), oxidative induction time, and density. The mill certificate accompanying each shipment lists the actual measured values per ISO 4427 Part 2 Annex C requirements.

Frequently asked questions
Q. What is the difference between ISO 4427 and EN 12201?
EN 12201 is the European harmonised standard derived from ISO 4427. Technical requirements are essentially identical; EN 12201 adds CE marking compliance and a few European-specific test methods.
Q. Does ISO 4427 require a specific resin brand?
No — only the material class (PE100, PE100-RC, etc) and the long-term hydrostatic strength. Primepoly uses virgin Borealis or SABIC resin (both qualified PE100 grades), batch-tracked.
Q. Is ISO 4427 sufficient for drinking water on its own?
ISO 4427 covers material strength and dimensions, not toxicology. For potable water you also need WRAS / NSF 61 / KIWA / DVGW / ACS depending on the destination market.
Q. Can I use ISO 4427 PE100 pipe for gas distribution?
No. Gas pipes are governed by ISO 4437 (PE pipes for gas) — different colour (yellow), different jointing methodology (electrofusion only above DN90), different regulatory framework.
